Ip cameras are the latest home CCTV technology, advanced from the traditional analogue cameras. IP cameras offer so much more than before. It can record to the camera or a central network video recorder (NVR). These cameras are typically hardwired using a Cat5 cable. These cameras offer great functions of which the most common are Infrared, line crossing, object and face detection to name a few. This means you can see and detect people, pets and vehicles entering an area all times of the day and night. All system offers a free App so that you can stay up to date at all times.
With more than 20 years security industry experience, we do not recommend wireless CCTV system. Whilst there is a time and place for a wireless camera setup, we will do everything in our power to install wired IP cameras. Some things to consider is the power to the camera, its generally battery powered which require replacement on a regular basis. To preserve the battery, its often programmed to record when movement is detected and only for a short while where it then enters a stand down period before it detects and record again. This is generally a short-term solution.
Solar has come a long way and continue to make improvements. Solar is often more expensive as it relies on battery backup, converters and the sun, making it unreliable at times. Our personal experience with solar cameras, there is a place for it in rural settings but understand the limitations of the solution and generally has a high-cost implication. One need to consider cellular network coverage for remote viewing of the CCTV. The main considerations one need to take is the sunlight hours per day, cellular network coverage and lighting, often very dark in these setting which hinder nighttime clarity.
